宣德炉材质选用的是一种风磨铜,经反复提炼的同时加入金、银等贵金属,如此便愈烧愈纯,其金银等贵金属便浮于表面,轻轻擦拭,便泛出光泽,铜质非常精细。

宣德炉是中国历史上第一件黄铜铜器。明朝宣德皇帝亲自催促生产高质量的铜炉,这在历史上是罕见的。玄德炉以颜色为亮点,其内部颜色融为一体。明代宣德炉的基本形状为张嘴、方唇或圆唇、短而细的颈、扁而鼓的肚子、三个钝的锥形实足或劈开的胯空足,嘴顶有桥形耳或兽形耳。碑刻的年代比炉底还多,类似于宣德瓷。除了铜,还有金银等珍贵材料加入,所以炉子质量特别细腻,呈深紫色或深棕色。一般来说,炉料需要四种精炼方式,而玄德炉需要十二种精炼方式,所以炉子的质量会更加纯净细腻,比如婴儿皮。
